The International Teaching Assistant Program (ITAP) was created to help UIC meet the legal requirement that all non-native English-speaking instructors be assessed for their oral English proficiency before they are allowed to teach at the university. ITAP evaluates the English proficiency of non-native English-speaking teaching assistants through its Oral Certification Interview (OCI).
